What’s New?

These days, I am working hard to have BAKER CITY 1948 published this summer. I was fortunate to have the editing class of Portland State University’s publishing program edit the novel. I was anxious about sitting down with 15 editors, all of whom had read the manuscript in detail and were ready to tell me the hard truths. But the experience was wonderful. They were candid, but warm and respectful at the same time. I came away with suggestions that made the novel much better.

So now it’s on to final edits, cover design, formatting the text, printing and creating a marketing and distribution plan. This website is a major part of marketing BAKER CITY 1948 as well as my nonfiction titles for not-for-profits. Reaching out to you and others via the web will be a big part of creating a readership for this novel.

Then, of course, I plan on a regional road trip in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. I will kickoff BAKER CITY 1948 in Baker City. I’ve spoken with a number of good folks there and hope to solidify plans for an author’s party as soon as I know the due date for the book. Then it will be on to the rest of Eastern Oregon and elsewhere around the state. Let me know if you have any ideas of where I could get together with some interested readers.

BAKER CITY 1948 is the first of three novels set in small Oregon towns. I lived in each of these special places as a youngster. Years later it came to me that Baker City and Tillamook and Roseburg all had experienced communal tragedy. Baker City suffered the shock of brutal killings that went unsolved. Tillamook lived through one of the most horrific forest fires in U. S. history. And a truck loaded with explosives tore out the center of downtown Roseburg.

Watch for further details on each of the forthcoming novels: TILLAMOOK 1952 and ROSEBURG 1959.
